FIFA World Cup 2026 surpasses one million stadium spectators

The FIFA chief said the milestone reflects the strong public interest in the expanded tournament, praising fans for helping bring what he described as the most inclusive World Cup to life.

ويعوّل الاردن على مهاجم رين الفرنسي موسى التعمري صاحب سبعة أهداف في التصفيات، الى جانب يزن العرب وعلي علوان، في ظل غياب يزن النعيمات، صاحب 8 أهداف في التصفيات بسبب قطع في الرباط الصليبي، وبديله الشاب إبراهيم صبرة الذي اصيب قبل أيام قليلة من المونديال.
وقال التعمري (28 عاما) في مقابلة مع موقع الاتحاد الدولي «مجرد تأهلنا إلى كأس العالم إنجاز تاريخي، لكننا لن نتوقف عند هذا الحد، أصبح هدفنا وطموحنا أعلى، وغايتنا رفع اسم الوطن وإثبات وجود الكرة الأردنية على الساحة العالمية».

اليابان تفرض تعادلاً قاتلاً على هولندا

فرض المنتخب الياباني تعادلا قاتلا على نظيره الهولندي 2-2 الأحد في مباراة مثيرة في أرلينغتون بتكساس ضمن منافسات المجموعة السادسة لمونديال أمريكا الشمالية في كرة القدم.

مدرب كوت ديفوار: تمكنا من الصمود والفوز

أشاد مدرب كوت ديفوار إيمرس فاي بفريقه للطريقة التي تجاوز بها توتر المشاركة في كأس العالم بعدما صمد رغم سوء الحظ في الشوط الأول حين اصطدمت كرتان للإكوادور بالعارضة. وقال فاي «كان اللاعبون متوترين بعض الشيء. كانت هذه أول مشاركة في كأس العالم للجميع، لذا كان هناك قدر من التوتر. كانوا يخشون المخاطرة». وأضاف: «تمكنا من الصمود والقتال».
وتابع: «في الشوط الثاني كنا أكثر تركيزا... ولدينا لاعبون في الهجوم قادرون على صنع الفارق في أي لحظة».
وأوقف الخسارة سلسلة من 19 مباراة دون هزيمة للإكوادور تعود إلى سبتمبر.
وقال القائد إينر فالنسيا «من الصعب أن تبدأ بخسارة». وأضاف: «هذا الفريق لديه تاريخ في تجاوز الظروف الصعبة. وستكون هذه واحدة أخرى. أنا واثق أننا سنتجاوزها».



مدرب الأوروغواي بييلسا: السعودية تملك عناصر مؤثرة

أضاء المدرب الأرجنتيني المخضرم للمنتخب الأوروغوياني مارسيلو بييلسا على وجود «بعض العناصر الفردية المؤثرة» في المنتخب السعودي، عشية مواجهته في ميامي ضمن منافسات المجموعة الثامنة في مونديال 2026 لكرة القدم.
وقال بييلسا «لا أعتقد أننا سنجد خصوما سهلين»، مضيفا أن المنتخب السعودي «يملك بعض العناصر الفردية المؤثرة». وأوضح بييلسا أن قلب الدفاع خوسيه ماريا خيمينيس تعافى من إصابة في الكاحل، لكنه أكد غياب لاعب الوسط جورجيان دي أراسكايتا والمدافع رونالد أراوخو بسبب تمزقات تعرضا لها خلال فترة الإعداد. وتطرّق بييلسا، إلى وجود إسبانيا في المجموعة بالإضافة إلى الرأس الأخضر.وقال «بما يتعلق بالمنتخب الإسباني، يجب أن نندهش بمدى احترافهم وكيف يجعلون لعبة كرة القدم لعبة جميلة بسبب حسن أدائهم. أشعر أن لديهم لاعبين بارزين وسيبرزون في السنة المقبلة». وتابع «الأسلوب وطريقة اللعب هي أمر يجب أن نتوقف عنده. لا نعرف إلى أي مدى سيصلون، من الصعب جدا أن نخمن، ولكن إسبانيا لديها لاعبون رائعون».

قال مدرب ألمانيا يوليان ناغلسمان إن فوز منتخب بلاده الكاسح على كوراساو سيعزز ثقة لاعبيه بأنفسهم في سعيهم لإحراز اللقب الخامس.

East Rutherford, United States: Kylian Mbappe scored twice as France launched their bid for a third World Cup crown with a 3-1 victory over Senegal in Group I on Tuesday.

Real Madrid star Mbappe took his career World Cup goals tally to 14 –- just two behind all-time leader Miroslav Klose –- and Bradley Barcola was also on target as Les Bleus secured all three points for Didier Deschamps' side.

Mbappe darted across the penalty area to convert a brilliant Michael Olise pass on 66 minutes to break the deadlock in a contest in which France struggled badly in the first half, but came to life after the break.

Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain then came off the bench to get the second late on, before his club colleague Ibrahim Mbaye pulled one back in stoppage time for Senegal.

But Mbappe saved the best for last, as he blasted in from long range in the 96th minute to seal the win, and become France's all-time top scorer with 58 goals.

The decision by coach Didier Deschamps to move Olise infield from the right wing was crucial in swinging the game the way of the two-time World Cup winners.

But it is Mbappe who grabbed the spotlight in what turned out to be a memorable 99th appearance for his country.

Mbappe renewed his extraordinary love affair with the World Cup, in which he scored in the 2018 final as France won, and netted a stunning hat-trick in their defeat on penalties to Argentina in the 2022 final in Qatar.

The 27-year-old Real Madrid striker's double took him past Pele's 12 and overtook the 13 of Lionel Messi and fellow Frenchman Just Fontaine.

He is now level with Gerd Mueller in the overall list, with only Klose and the Brazilian Ronaldo (15) still ahead of him.

France, one of the pre-tournament favourites, will be expected to build on this to ease into the last 32, with outsiders Iraq up next before a meeting with Erling Haaland's Norway.

Deschamps, in his last tournament before he steps down after 14 years in charge, has been wary of overconfidence in his talented squad.

Opponents Senegal served as a warning from the past -– France went into the 2002 World Cup as holders and favourites, but lost 1-0 to the Lions of Teranga in their opening game and never recovered, going out in the group stage without scoring a goal.

Olise outstanding

Senegal showed how strong they are before a packed house of 80,545 in a game played in bright sunshine with the skyscrapers of Manhattan in the distance.

A team led by veteran forward Sadio Mane, and featuring four starters born in France, were playing their first competitive game since the Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco in January.

Pape Thiaw's side won that in extra time, but were later stripped of their title for a walk-off protest by several players during the match. Their appeal into that is ongoing.

They were the better team in the first half, as Nicolas Jackson almost scored on the break on 25 minutes when he broke away and hit the post, before the ball ricocheted off goalkeeper Mike Maignan and went just wide.

Ismaila Sarr then put a glorious chance over the bar in first-half stoppage time, and Senegal were to regret that.

Olise and Ousmane Dembele switched positions at the interval, with the reigning Ballon d’Or moving right and leaving the area through the middle behind Mbappe to the Bayern man.

Suddenly France came to life, with Olise being denied by Edouard Mendy and then setting up Mbappe for a chance that was saved.

France thought they had a penalty on the hour mark when Mbappe went down under a Mane challenge, but referee Alireza Faghani opted not to award a spot-kick after a review.

It didn't matter, as Olise continued to tear apart the opposition and slipped in Mbappe for the opener.

It was a superb goal, and France struck again when Adrien Rabiot released substitute Barcola to run through and score.

Mbaye got one back on 95 minutes, but Mbappe had the last word.

Atlanta: The man who stymied powerhouse Spain at the World Cup here Monday walked onto the pitch as a 40-year-old journeyman, two weeks away from the expiration of his contract at a second-tier Portuguese club.

Josimar Dias - best known by his nickname, Vozinha - and his Cape Verde teammates were monumental underdogs against the Spaniards. As goalkeeper, Vozinha was to be Cape Verde’s last line of defense in a game Spain was widely expected to dominate. And Spain did dominate, analytically and tangibly. But it didn’t appear to matter to Vozinha.

He made seven saves as Spain racked up 2.29 expected goals against Cape Verde’s mere 0.28. Spain held 74 percent of the possession and completed 92 percent of its passes, and it still wasn’t enough to break through Cape Verde’s defensive wall.

For Spain, among the favorites to battle for the World Cup title, the 0-0 draw was a bitter disappointment. For Vozinha and Cape Verde, the third-smallest country to ever compete in the World Cup, it was an unbelievable triumph.

When the final whistle sounded, Vozinha was moved to tears.

"I feel very, very proud,” Vozinha said after the match. "I want to represent my country with passion and love. ... It’s a dream come true to compete against Spain.”

Vozinha cried for his grandparents, he said afterward, who "did everything for me and for my life” and died several years ago, before they could see their grandson help their nation qualify for its first World Cup. He cried also for his mother, who couldn’t afford the $15,000 bond the State Department requires for Cape Verde residents to obtain a visa.

As Vozinha talked, more than half an hour after the match ended, he was still wearing his gloves and clutching his Man of the Match trophy.

Cape Verde had held a giant at bay, and a 40-year-old with a wrinkled brow and streaks of gray in his beard led his team in the fight.

"Voz is a big legend,” defender Steven Moreira said. "We’ve been making a lot of jokes about him, even us, but on the world stage, he does a crazy game like this - and he’s 40 years old. Age is not important."

Vozinha’s journey to this moment began at the Cape Verdean club Batuque, in his hometown of Mindelo on the island of São Vicente. From there, he played for clubs in Angola, Moldova, Portugal, Cyprus and Slovakia before returning to Portugal with Chaves in 2024.

Before the World Cup, Vozinha said he would be leaving Chaves at the end of his contract. The player evaluation website Transfermarkt estimates his transfer value as just €50,000.

"I’m very proud of him,” Vozinha said, when asked what he’d tell his teenage self about what transpired against Spain. "He worked hard for this moment, and I think he never dreamed maybe this would happen..”

An actual 18-year-old, Spain’s Lamine Yamal, was supposed to star Monday. He is one of the most famous soccer players on the planet: A 200-foot photo of him adorns a skyscraper next to the stadium, and there were probably more fans in Atlanta on Monday wearing Yamal’s No. 19 jersey than all who were dressed in Cape Verde’s blue.

When Yamal came into the match in the 71st minute - he wasn’t in the starting 11 as he works his way back from a hamstring injury suffered in April - there was a sense that he would be the savior. Vozinha, though, wouldn’t allow it.

He made save after save after save, each one drawing a louder roar when the ball touched his white gloves instead of the goal’s netting. Across social media, admiration for Vozinha’s efforts grew and grew - he began the day with less than 100,000 followers on Instagram and now has more than 2 million. (In comparison, Yamal has 44 million followers.)

The pockets of blue and white - scattered throughout the Spain-heavy crowd but loud enough to carry the hopes of a tiny island nation - jumped, danced and sang for 90 straight minutes. As the match went on, any neutrals in attendance joined the full-throated support for Cape Verde; such a shining performance from such a massive underdog is impossible not to get swept up in.

"In the second half, we start to be very tired, and we feel the crowd cheering us a lot,” Moreira said. "Even on the counterattack, it was far, but it was like you were very close to score the goal.”

When it was over, many of the Spanish players bent at the waist, unable to believe what had just happened. The Cape Verde players did, too, in awe at the draw they’d achieved. Moreira knelt to the ground, his face buried in the grass, whispering a prayer of thanks. Vozinha wasn’t the only one in tears, while others took off for a victory lap of sorts around the field, for their triumphant tie and their unlikely hero in the net.

"It’s everything,” Moreira said, still trying to process the result. "I don’t realize, for the moment, what we did against Spain. I’m just proud of my country and my teammates.”

Iran twice battled back for a 2-2 draw with New Zealand on Monday in their frenetic opening match of a World Cup campaign that has been utterly overshadowed by war, politics and protests.

The Iranian team's very presence at the Los Angeles Stadium had long felt uncertain, after months of military conflict between their nation and the United States.

At last able to focus on the football, the Iran players twice found themselves trailing to the tournament's lowest-ranked team, thanks to goals from New Zealand striker Elijah Just.

But with a vocally pro-Iran crowd drowning out planned protests by anti-government demonstrators, equalizers from Ramin Rezaeian and Mohammad Mohebi spared Team Melli any further blushes.

Many inside the stadium sported anti-government emblems, nonchalantly flouting FIFA rules against political messaging, and the Iran anthem received boos and cheers.

Iran coach Amir Ghalenoei had insisted on the eve of the game his players would not "pay attention to any of the hype."

But his side was stunned by an early New Zealand goal on the counter created by veteran striker Chris Wood.

Collecting a long pass in the seventh minute, the Nottingham Forest target man expertly held up the ball, turned and played in the onrushing Elijah Just.

After a sharp exchange of passes with Sarpreet Singh and Wood, Just leapt and smashed a volley into the net.

Iran's star forward Mehdi Taremi nearly levelled in the 23rd minute, the former Inter Milan man's long-range effort ricocheting off the right post.

They came close again as Kiwi keeper Max Crocombe was tackled outside his box, only able to watch as a lobbed effort at his open goal faded wide.

Iran's equalizer did come in the 32rd minute with a poacher's finish from wingback Rezaeian.

Rezaeian latched onto a rebound following Saman Ghoddos' smart pass into Shahriyar Moghanlou, whose shot on the turn was blocked by the outstretched leg of Finn Surman.

Iran defender Ali Nemati thought he had scored in first-half stoppage time, but his header from a free kick was comfortably offside.

New Zealand retook the lead in the 55th minute. Motherwell striker Just bagged a brace via a crisp one-two with Wood, after Liberato Cacace had stolen the ball on the halfway line.

But they were again pegged back nine minutes later, as Mohebi's leaping header from Rezaeian's superb cross glanced off the inside post.

The game's final half hour saw Iran on the front foot, but unable to grab a winner due to a combination of sloppy finishing and dogged New Zealand defending.

The draw dents Iran's hopes of progressing to the knockouts for the first time, though fellow Group G contenders Egypt and Belgium also drew Monday.

Meanwhile, New Zealand's wait for a first World Cup win goes on.
