Mamelodi Sundowns mourn ‘highly talented’ midfielder

“It is with heartfelt sorrow that Mamelodi Sundowns can confirm the passing of highly talented Bafana Bafana midfielder, Jayden Adams,” the club said.

“The Chairman and the Motsepe Family, the Board of Directors, Technical Team, Players, Management, Staff, Supporters of Mamelodi Sundowns FC and the entire Yellow Nation express their deepest condolences to the family and friends as we mourn the loss of Jayden.”

The club added that its thoughts and prayers were with Adams’ loved ones during this difficult time.

“We pray that the Almighty God comforts and strengthens the Adams family, his friends and everyone that knew him.”

Mamelodi Sundowns also appealed for privacy for the family as they come to terms with their loss.

A career cut tragically short

Adams established himself as one of South Africa’s most gifted midfielders after emerging through the ranks at Stellenbosch FC, where his impressive performances earned him national recognition.

His rise continued following his move to Mamelodi Sundowns, where he became an integral part of the club’s midfield and helped the Brazilians achieve domestic and continental success.

The dynamic midfielder also cemented his place in Hugo Broos’ Bafana Bafana squad and represented South Africa at FIFA World Cup 2026 where he made three appearances, showcasing his talent on the global stage.

Football fraternity in mourning

The confirmation of Adams’ death has prompted an outpouring of grief across South African football, with tributes expected from team-mates, former clubs, supporters and rivals alike.

La Fédération allemande de football (DFB) a franchi une étape décisive dans sa quête d’un nouveau sélectionneur. Samedi, l’instance a annoncé avoir trouvé un accord de principe avec Jürgen Klopp pour prendre les rênes de la Mannschaft, sous réserve de l’accord de son employeur actuel, Red Bull.

Dans un communiqué, la DFB a précisé : « Le président de la DFB, Bernd Neuendorf, et le vice-président, Hans-Joachim Watzke, ont tenu hier à New York leur première réunion approfondie avec Jürgen Klopp concernant sa possible nomination au poste d’entraîneur de l’équipe nationale. »

L’institution a ensuite ajouté : « Lors de cette réunion, qui s’est avérée très constructive, un accord a été trouvé sur les points clés d’un éventuel contrat. Les discussions se poursuivront la semaine prochaine. Les deux parties sont confiantes quant à la conclusion positive des négociations, sous réserve d’un accord avec Red Bull, l’employeur actuel de Klopp. Tout contrat potentiel devra être finalisé lors d’une réunion conjointe du conseil de surveillance et de l’assemblée générale de la DFB. »

Klopp, priorité de la DFB

Depuis la démission de Julian Nagelsmann après l’élimination de l’Allemagne face au Paraguay (1-1, 4-3 t.a.b.) en seizièmes de finale de la Coupe du monde 2026, Jürgen Klopp figurait en tête de liste des dirigeants allemands. Son immense expérience et son palmarès faisaient de lui le candidat idéal pour relancer une sélection en pleine crise.

Un entraîneur au palmarès prestigieux

Révélé à Mayence, Klopp s’est imposé au Borussia Dortmund avec deux titres de Bundesliga (2011 et 2012) avant de conduire le club jusqu’en finale de la Ligue des champions en 2013. Son aventure à Liverpool l’a ensuite propulsé parmi les plus grands entraîneurs du monde, avec une Ligue des champions remportée en 2019 et une Premier League historique en 2020, mettant fin à trente ans d’attente des Reds.

Red Bull détient la clé

Depuis janvier 2025, Jürgen Klopp occupe le poste de directeur mondial du football chez Red Bull. La DFB doit désormais obtenir le feu vert du groupe autrichien pour finaliser sa nomination. The SA Schools and SA Schools A squads were finalised on Saturday after the conclusion of the U18 Craven Week at Grey High.

The selected players will remain in Gqeberha to prepare for the annual clash between the two squads, which is scheduled for 3pm on Thursday, 16 July at Grey High.

This match will be preceded by the historic first encounter between the two SA Schools Girls squads, which kicks off at 1pm, with both clashes broadcast live on SuperSport Schools.

Back from 2025 are lock Lwandile Mlaba, loose forward Jacobus de Villiers and fullback Lamla Mgedezi, with all three included in the SA Schools squad yet again.

Lock Juvan Burden, loose forward Nhlahla Ndlovu, scrumhalf Mickyle Booise, centre Erin Nelson, as well as outside backs Ncuthu Kepe and Ethan van Biljon all played for the A side in 2025 and have been promoted to the SA Schools team this year, while centre Nathan Aneke has been included in the A team again.

SA Schools head coach Lwazi Zangqa will be assisted by Heinrich Martin, while head coach Flash Malinga and assistant coach Cobus van Dyk will take the reins with the A squad. Clinton van Rensburg will be responsible for both teams’ defence.
