Udinese names Maduka Okoye the Player of the Season
Following an outstanding campaign with the Italian Serie A club, goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has been officially named Udinese’s 2025–26 Player of the Season.
The Nigerian goalkeeper earned the recognition for his consistent and impressive performances for the Zebras throughout the season. He delivered a series of standout displays, particularly against Italian giants Juventus and AC Milan.
A remarkable comeback at Udinese
Okoye missed the opening two months of the campaign after being suspended over an alleged match-fixing scandal. However, the 26-year-old bounced back strongly to reclaim the club’s number one position, keeping 10 clean sheets in 29 league appearances for his side this season.
To cap off his incredible run, Okoye has also been shortlisted for the Serie A Player of the Month award for May.
Mamelodi Sundowns coach lays down bigger expectations
Sundowns claimed a 1-0 victory in the first leg thanks to an excellent free-kick from Aubrey Modiba, but several chances went begging during the match.
The narrow lead means Sundowns will head into the return leg with work still to do despite controlling large periods of the encounter.

MIGUEL CARDOSO WANTED MORE FOR MAMELODI SUNDOWNS
Cardoso felt his team deserved another goal that could have given them a stronger advantage before the trip away.
“Five I think it’s a bit too much and eventually not fair, but yeah, we should’ve scored one more goal and create a little bit better advantage and have one foot in the front. Anyway, we showed we can compete with this team as we compete with any other team,” Cardoso told SuperSport TV after the match.
The Portuguese coach also stressed that the mindset cannot change despite failing to extend the lead.
“We need to take the energy into the second match of course so that we can fight for the trophy. We should not drop any kind of energy because we didn’t score, the moment of decisions are upfront and we need to look at the second match.
“Be able to close our ears, forget what happens in the stands and play the football we can play whenever in the continent that’s what we need to do.”

DEFENSIVE DISPLAY DELIGHTS TECHNICAL TEAM
Cardoso was particularly satisfied with how Sundowns managed transitions and limited the danger from AS FAR.
“I think our defensive transition we were in most part of the game ok, we could control the spaces in our defence, it’s just more our offensive transition. It’s not easy to break this team on counter-attack, break-attacks because their full-back attack a lot,” the Sundowns mentor continued.
“So, there were not much in terms of spaces. I think we had to manage the ball and take them inside to the other in order to increase and in that moment find spaces.
“Here and there were not able but we were in the major part of the game. That’s the mentality we need to take in the second match,” Cardoso concluded.
Keah’Cup 2026 : Brofodoumé vibre au rythme des jeunes talents
La première édition de la Keah’Cup a été officiellement lancée ce dimanche 17 mai sur les installations du FC San Pedro à Brofodoumé. Prévu jusqu’au 24 mai, ce tournoi U19 réunit douze équipes venues démontrer leur potentiel dans une compétition placée sous le signe de la détection et de la promotion du football des jeunes.
Dès cette journée inaugurale, les différentes formations ont offert des rencontres engagées. La RFA a parfaitement lancé les hostilités en s’imposant devant l’ASC Cocody sur le score de 2 buts à 0. Dans la foulée, le FC San Pedro a dominé Deux Plateaux FC avant que l’Academy Potey Keahson ne termine la journée par une victoire maîtrisée face à Avenir Pro (2-0).
À travers cette initiative, Guy-Charles Potey veut créer un cadre d’expression pour les jeunes footballeurs ivoiriens et sous-régionaux. L’ancien capitaine de l’Africa Sports souhaite faire de cette compétition un événement durable capable d’ouvrir de nouvelles perspectives aux jeunes talents.
"Nous comptons bien réconduire le tournoi les années suivantes. Nous envisageons également de l'étendre à d'autres catégories et à d'autres publics. Par exemple, comme je l'ai dit précédemment, nous prévoyons aussi d'organiser un tournoi féminin plus tard. Nous avons eu des équipes très intéressantes et des matchs très disputés. Nous avons de très, très belles équipes. Deux de nos équipes ont également réalisé de très belles performances", a-t-il déclaré.
La compétition se dispute en trois groupes de quatre équipes. Les deux premiers de chaque poule ainsi que les deux meilleurs troisièmes accéderont aux quarts de finale prévus le 22 mai. Les demi-finales auront lieu le 23 mai, tandis que la finale se disputera le 24 mai.
Au-delà du trophée, la Keah’Cup entend surtout servir de vitrine aux jeunes joueurs en présence de recruteurs, agents et clubs internationaux. Organisé par l’Academy Potey Keahson Football Club de Facobly, le tournoi ambitionne déjà de s’imposer comme un rendez-vous important du football de jeunes en Côte d’Ivoire.

Ligue 1 – Premier barrage pour Nice, 2e pour l’ASSE
Condamné à jouer les barrages après les victoires du Havre et d’Auxerre, l’OGC Nice va défier l’ASSE pour rester en Ligue 1. Une première pour les Aiglons, mais une deuxième tentative pour les Verts de remonter dans l’élite. L’OGC Nice, en course pour un trophée et la finale de la Coupe de France, jouera sa survie en Ligue 1 après la coupe nationale contre Lens. Les Aiglons ont rendez-vous dans une double confrontation avec l’ASSE, 3e de saison régulière de Ligue 2 et vainqueur de Rodez en barrages. Le match aller aura lieu le mardi 26 mai à 18h45 GMT au Stade Geoffroy-Guichard tandis que le retour se déroulera à l’Allianz Riviera, le vendredi 29 mai à 18h45 GMT. Depuis l’instauration des barrages d’accesssion pour la Ligue 1 lors de la saison 2016-2017, l’OGC Nice n’avait jamais affronté ce cas de figure tandis que l’AS Saint-Etienne a avait franchi un premier barrage lors de la saison 2023-2024 en faisant tomber Metz en Ligue 2 (2-1, 2-2 après prolongation).
