“All these series are a good opportunity” – KL Rahul on India’s 2027 ODI World Cup preparation after 3rd ODI vs WI

India’s wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul said the bilateral series are an important part of India’s preparation for the upcoming 2027 ODI World Cup, as the team is looking to test different players and combinations ahead of the global tournament.

“All these series on the road to the World Cup are a good opportunity to get some game time in the middle,” Rahul said on JioStar. “We don’t want to go too far away from the plan but also experiment a little bit as a batting unit.”

Rahul was one of India’s standout performers in the third ODI on Saturday. After not getting a chance to bat in the first two ODIs, he made his opportunity count with an unbeaten 129 off 87 balls. His innings included 10 fours and six sixes at a strike rate of 148.27. However, his effort could not prevent India from losing the match by five wickets. India still won the three-match series 2-1.

Rahul said India now want to push their limits with the bat, especially after seeing bigger totals being chased down in modern ODI cricket.

“The goal so far has been about can we score 330-340 while batting first, but we’re seeing that 340s and 350s get chased down very easily in one-day cricket. So how can batters, once set, keep pressing on and get 370s and 380s, or push for 400 on a given day..”

India were also without key players such as Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel, which allowed the team to assess other options.

“The coach and captain have been very clear on the personnel they want to bring in,” Rahul added. “They want to give a longer rope to certain players who we feel might be important for the World Cup.”
